1.Introduction
With China’s policy of reform and opening-up to the outside world and the strengthening process of globalization, communication among nations is becoming more and more frequent, of which cultural e*change is an important part. As an important means of cultural communication, films play a very important part. They are also one of the most important elements in the world’s cultural communication, which can be regarded as an effective way of promoting mutual understanding between different counties. Since film titles have always been put in an eye-catching place, the translation of English film titles becomes more significant.
Culture itself is comprehensive and comple*. Whatever wealth that human beings created materially and psychologically can be regarded as the part of cultural realm. Hence, people know that culture has a strong nature of time and space , is different from nation to nation. When talking about culture, we can divide it into several levels : value preference, thinking way, aesthetic predilection, religious faiths, social inventions and so on.
Language is not only a carrier of culture but an important part of culture. Each nation has own cultural information. On one hand, it represents a nation’s historical and cultural background. On the other hand, it also includes peoples outlook on life, lifestyles and modes of thinking and so on. The translation is a conversion for words and languages which date from different culture background, social environment and mode of thinking. In a word, any translations couldn’t e*ist alone without culture, and the assent of translation is cultural communication.

 Vocative Function
According to the philosophy ”everyone has curiosity” we will feel e*cited when we see something fresh and strange and we take delight in learning and easily be influenced. The vocative function is just to influence the audiences’ sentiments and arouse their interests. Fahrenheit 9/11《華氏911》, the best-selling documentary film, strongly criticized the Bush government. The director chose the 9.11 event as part of the title in his film to attract audiences and also convey the main idea of the film.
 Aesthetic Function
Aesthetic function is to bring audiences’ enjoyment from the title. The aesthetic feeling is a main factor that causes audience to make the decision whether they will go to a film or not. The aesthetic function is most obviously felt on the romantic films. Some titles of the classical films have become the synonym of romantic, such as Casablanca《北非諜影》, Sleepless in Seattle《西雅圖不眠夜》.

Chinese culture belongs to the humanities culture, it emphasizes on inductive synthesis method. As for language, it emphasizes on hint and metaphor.
Chinese film title is just like traditional Chinese painting. It pursues artistic conceptionsuch as silence, peace and so on. It always uses symbols and poetical features.

2.2.2The Characteristics of English Movie Title
English movie titles usually contain only one or two key words. Most of the titles are brief and concise. Generally speaking, the titles are made up of nouns and noun phrases, such as Titanic, Speed, Dorothy Dandridge, and Sound of Music. Only a few titles have some short sentences: While You’re Sleeping, Catch Me If You Can, and Saving Private Ryan.
Though the titles are brief and concise, they are to the point. The titles summarize the main story of the movie and the audience can easily get the idea of the story. Gladiator tells astory of a Roman general who was forced to be a gladiator and fight for his freedom and faith. Return to Me, a love story, tells about misunderstanding between a couple and finally their reunion and reconciliation.

2.3 Comman Naming Methods of English Film Title
Before film arts communication, film title one has appeared. It is a harbinger, which has promotion effect. A good title translation can enrich film’s connotation, and promote the cross-cultural communication. In order to have a better understanding of English movie title, we need to know English movie title sources. Generally speaking, English movies are always named by the background，theme，plot，main character, or thread of movie.
Naming by background. The background that plays a very important part in characterization has several elements, such as time, place and environment in which the story happens. Many film titles belongs to this sort, Casablanca《卡薩布蘭卡》,Titanic《泰坦尼克》,Chicago《芝加哥》，Roman Holiday《羅馬假日》，Pearl Harbor《珍珠港》,Halloween《萬圣節(jié)》.
Naming by theme. The title of the film is a mean to outstand the theme lying behind the story. Film title named by theme can convey subjective message, establish the entire emotional mood，and attract the spectacles. Such as, Serendipity《緣分天注定》, Brief Encounter《相見恨晚》, Ghost《人鬼情未了》, Brave Heart《勇敢者的心》.
Naming by main character(s). There is always one leading role in a film, and in some cases are not only one. He or she usually is the hero of the film. Here we can see, Elizabeth《伊莉莎白女王》, Jane Eyre《簡愛》, Romeo and Julie t《羅密歐與朱麗葉》, Harry potter《哈利•波特》, ZhouEnlai 《周恩來》.

2.4The Relationship Between Culture And Translation Of Film Title
Film is one of the important manifestations of culture. The frequent movie culture communication around the world is a way can introduce the e*otic culture to people in different countries and regions. English movie titles contain a great number of cultural elements. It’s an intuitionistic way for us to e*perience the differences between Chinese and English culture. During the course of translation of English title,there’re two types of culture are playing the part----one is the culture of the country where English is the first language, which is the source of movie culture; Another one is Chinese culture, which should be used well to interpret English culture properly. Sometimes, however,the English film and title, influenced by the literature, history, philosophy, religion, tradition, custom of western nations cultural system, becomes the communication barriers between Chinese and English culture circles. In the process of translation, translator chooses, regulates, strengthens, and e*cludes the English cultural elements. And at the same time, the typical Chinese characteristics and images are added to the translation. As a result of the reconstruction, the general audiences are willing to accept the new images of culture, and understand it better.

3. Review of Related Translation Theory
As a new thing in the last century, the development of film factory is amazing. Both in China and other countries, there are many classic works, which are already part of valuable culture. Films have been a new bridge of countries. They can present the history, nature and literature in a direct way. No matter whether it is a Chinese film or an English film, translation is needed if the film is going abroad. Therefore, the translation of film title is the key point in this field.
