1 Introduction
1.1 The Significance of the Study
It has been about 120 years since movie was invented by Thomas Alva Edison in the late of 19th century. Owe to the progress of civilization and the development of science and technology for over a century, movie industry has already swept around the world and flourished beyond e*ample, becoming a pivotal part in consumption guide, cultural communication, entertainment life, information dissemination, and image-building.
Chinese movie industry has achieved remarkable progress. English movie, however, is still the leading force in the world. According to the statistics of The State Administration of Radio Film and Television (SARFT), English movies take up almost half of Chinese mainland bo* office grosses in recent 6 years (Figure 1). Obviously, translation touching upon movie industry has increasingly become a hot research field, especially the movie title, which is the first factor to catch people’s eyes. An e*cellent movie title translation should take movie theme, original characteristic, cultural differences, audience interest, commercial influence, and artistic value into consideration.
